47' entrance facade · Full height, 16"-deep unspliced castellated VS1-A100 mullions

This cutting-edge project marks a critical development in the industry: the introduction of the first castellated aluminum mullion offered in the world. Initially drawn as a custom built-up steel profile, this project features a custom 16” deep solid aluminum extruded VS1 mullion that clear spans 47’. The mullion sticks are 47’ continuous with no splice plate. Multiple 7’ long ovular castellations are cut during fabrication, creating a truss-like aesthetic in the section.

The beauty of the VS1 system is that even though this design called for a custom mullion shape, the rest of the glazing method utilizes the standard VS1 fitting components—the power of a standard kit of parts.
