Two-story lobby facade · VS1-A100 with 8" mullions and triple IGU glazing

This Chicago medical facility is another collaboration between Innovation Glass and the Gensler design team. A two-story VS1 facade wraps around the entryway of the building, featuring our standard 8” mullion and triple IGU, 1 13/16”-thick glass. The tapered shape of this vertical mullion reduces its visibility from the outside and makes the glass look like it’s floating.

FROM THE INSTALLER VENTANA

12,000 square feet of VS-1 system was provided on level one and two of the building. This is a point-supported system with eight inch deep bullet-shaped mullions, no horizontals, and gravity shelves and pinch bodies that hold the glass off the mullion. Tripled-glazed units with outboard, center, and inboard low-iron glass lites are used for a crystal clear look. In order to enhance the transparency, the VS-1 scope also features all-glass corners with steel angle channels for lateral support.

Franz Safford, and the entire team at Innovation Glass, represent everything we look for in a partner.  His engineering acumen is always on display, but never takes a back seat to his passion for great design.  I’ve yet to come to him with an idea that he wasn’t willing to help explore, design, and ultimately deliver.
