10-story atrium facade
VS1 dual wall; very transparent; operable vents

Through a valued collaboration with the design team, the VS1 system was customized to create a 10 story dual glass wall envelope with a 10’ mullion spacing on the main facade transitioning to a lobby wall which wraps around the Schreiber Center at the Quinlan School of Business. The level of transparency achieved by the use of tapered horizontal armatures bolted to the mullions at the horizontal glass joints is unprecedented in the world for a cavity wall solution. The dual wall is vented with VS1 motorized operable windows tied to a building control system.

FROM THE ARCHITECT SCB

The building is centered around a glass atrium inspired by architect Daniel Burnham’s use of atria to bring the outdoors in. This modern atrium allows for an abundance of daylight to reach all interior spaces, while also promoting transparency and inclusion—elegantly signifying Loyola’s ethics-driven educational ideals of social justice and equality.

The LEED Gold building features a custom sustainable design for the urban environment, taking into account unpredictable winds, street noise, and air quality. It utilizes a highly efficient envelope design and operates using a variety of sustainable building and mechanical systems such as natural ventilation, daylighting, radiant heating and cooling, and self-shading.
